This project examines medical translation support, using the North Country and Western New York as guidelines for comparison. Driven by the flow of immigration, the state’s need for translation services in the medical field is at an all-time high; and while the need for translation services in rural areas might seem less critical, that does not necessarily hold true. This perception and funding disparities often means that rural areas lack the range of services provided in urban areas. Drawing from data collected by the ER hospitals in both areas, this project compares what support services are available to ESL patients and what barriers limit accessibility.
