Creation of a Successful Event: My Process for Crane Oboe Days (2021)
COVID has disrupted many of our curricular activities. In isolation, we often feel alone. While Crane Oboe Days created a sense of community through an online interface, it was even more successful in giving participants a sense of cohesion and comprehension. This paper aims to identify the determinants of Crane Oboe Days’ success. To assess the hypothesis that organization commands performance, I participated in multiple double reed and oboe days at other schools. As a participant (both before and during COVID) I experienced the effects of the choices the creators made. These choices were noted and analyzed for their effect, achievability, and consequences. My analysis dictated how I structured and portrayed Crane Oboe Days. Participant satisfaction was measured through an anonymous post-event survey. Positive responses suggest that thoughtful organization and planning favors an event’s success.
