Art Department professor Iggy Beerbower will lead eight students on an immersive journey through Rome and the Puglia region, exploring Italy’s rich art, architecture, history, culture, and traditions. The itinerary includes visits to museums, Roman ruins, cathedrals, artist studios, small towns, olive groves, and other culturally significant landscapes. The course is designed to offer students first-hand experience through travel and research. Travel like this for art students can be life changing and can impact their art and their studies for years to come. The class met several times over the spring semester to go over the assignments as well as travel preparation. The main assignment is a research paper on a topic related to the sites that are visited during the trip. The topic will be revisited again once in the country. There will be discussions based comparing what was learned through research beforehand with the in-person experience.
