Poster: 2025 Profiling Mandibular Remains

This research employed forensic methods to profile seven mandibles from complete skulls recovered from a North Country taxidermy shop by New York State’s Ray Brook-based Forensic Investigation Unit. Both metric and non-metric osteological methods were used to estimate the ancestry, sex, age, and other characteristics of remains. The ancestry results indicated four individuals of European descent, two of Asian descent, and one of African descent. Sex determination revealed three males and four females. Age estimation showed five young adults aged between 16-35 and two older individuals over 45 years. Pathological findings included dental fillings, cavities, tooth extractions, calculus, and edentulous jaw conditions. This research contributes to further identification of human remains investigated for a closed forensic case.
