The Climate Smart Communities is a New York State program that helps local governments reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to changing climate with grants, rebates for electric vehicles, and free technical assistance. By preparing a comprehensive list of government buildings and their related greenhouse gas emissions, the Village of Canton can apply for the Climate Smart Communities of New York Program. My task has been to review the data collected since 2016 on village greenhouse gas emissions and use Geographic Information Systems and charts to illustrate recent emissions trends in an accessible and educational manner. A related map highlighting emissions associated with Canton’s government-operated buildings locations will help the community prepare their application for the Climate Smart Communities Program.
